Gingivitis

Periodontal problems range from mild gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) to severe bone loss leading to tooth loss. Dr. Catherine Oden Fulton does not treat periodontal disease; however, she assists general dentists and periodontists with any tooth malocclusion that is contributing to disease. When treating a vulnerable periodontally involved tooth, she adjusts her orthodontic treatment by applying lighter pressures over longer periods of time. Orthodontic therapy is often an adjunct to periodontal treatment. Orthodontics performed to straighten teeth and improve occlusion helps to create a healthy oral environment.
